GM Product and Technology Event

Last monday I had the awesome privilege of going to Detroit for GM’s Product and Technology event. I had such a blast see some behind the scenes things and checking out GM’s new line up for Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. We saw of the new cars out on the market, some cars that are going into production very soon, and some concept cars [so new, they were only in clay form - who knew you could make a life size car out of clay!].

My favorite part was seeing all the technology they are putting into the new cars. As a kid my mom was one of the first people to ever have a phone in their car and I still remember when navigation systems came out [you know where you had to load a CD with the map info and bought a new updated map CD every year]. The new navigation systems can get live updates on traffic and with one touch, on their awesome touch screens, you can get a detour if needed. I love that you can pretty much do everything from the touch screens. For cars with out a touch screen they still have great options. I love that the new GMC Terrain has a screen that comes up on your review mirror when you reverse so you see live video of what’s behind you.

GM is really equipping their cars with some neat stuff. The new ambiance lighting they have included in many of their vehicles is impressive and actually useful. The ambiance light makes it easy to quickly find things, like your cell phone, with out fumbling around in the dark and with out the need to turn on an overhead light that could wake up the kids. It’s also helpful if you want to change the music your listening to off your ipod. GM is making ipod and other musical device so easy to use in their cars now. They have added a usb port that you can just plug your device right into. It’s conveniently inside the middle console [in all the cars I saw] so you never have to worry about taking your ipod in and out of it when you are coming and going.

GM is really thinking about how people use their cars, how their lives still go on in a car, and how to make it a better experience. They are coming up with so many ways to make your driving experience comfortable, manageable, and family friendly that you are sure to find what is right for you. Overall, I was really impressed with what GM is doing with their cars and their company.

Below is my interview with Susan Docherty from GM. Susan is the general manager for Buick and GMC cars and is talking about a great new family car – no minivan here folks!
