We Are Moving

We are moving to Groton CT…like Thursday! Tomorrow the Navy movers come and pack all our stuff [bye bye computer ):], Wednesday they move it all out, and Thursday is our final inpection of our townhome [they are pretty much going to be a white glove inspection too].

We will stop to say good bye to a few friends and drive on. Our first road food being Sonic’s 333 1/2 miles away. We will drive pretty much straight through until we get a little beyond Chicago where we will be stopping for a day or two to see some dear friends of ours, Capri by the Lake [whose hair cut I've kind of copied]. We will meet each others babies, play a little and then drive on to Groton.

I have no idea when our things will arrive or when I will be online after the move. I was suppossed to have blogging time yesterday but since half of my luggage [that includes the carseat] was left in San Francisco and we waited around for it that plan was shot to hell.

Please know I’m bring a [paper] notebook with me and I plan on writing alot. I have so many things in my head after BlogHer ’08 [which was FANTASTIC!]. I meet so many wonderful people too. I can’t wait to give you all my details but sadly I have too.

I will be tweeting from the road but please remember I can ONLY get direct messages on my phone.

oh…plus I left my camera’s battery charger at the hotel. Also I don’t know where the charger to my nice camera is. *sigh*

I’ve spent the day packing what we will need to survive on for about a month and Hubby is packing the car now. Our house is in disaster.

It’s now hitting me that we are moving. Those nervous, scared, sad feelings are boiling through. Even though I know this move will be good for us I still just hate the moving process. No matter how much I prepare good byes are really hard for me and hellos can be difficult too.

Also, please pray for my grandma, Mor-Mor. My family took her to the ER Saturday night because her blood pressure was dangerously through the roof. They are going to be doing more this week but it’s still shakes me to the core every time she goes to the hospital. She is a strong woman but she is 93 with some health problems, diabetes being the main. Thank you!!!

Damn…Hubby needs to print travel directions and then pack up the computer. I will miss you bloggers! Hopefully I will be blogging again soon!

Hi, I came here via Cecily’s blog! I am originally from eastern CT and went to college in New London (across the river from Groton). If you have any questions about the area, you can definitely email me! There is definitely a lot to do around there!

Hey honey! Sorry about the quick move, but you’ll be much closer to me now. Heh.

I really loved meeting you, and I cannot wait to read more about you.

And you really DID have the cutest baby at BlogHer.

    Hi, Tara.

Good luck with your move! So much going on for you. And good wishes for your grandma, too.

It meant a lot to me that you attended our session.

Well, you and that adorable baby girl!

Hi Tara! We just moved to New Haven (about 35 minutes south of Groton) about 9 months ago! My husband is in the Coast Guard so I am one of the many who can identify with the hell that is the military move. LOL

I’m orignaly from GA and have only lived in the South for our other assignments so living “up here” is new to me as well. I’ve never even experienced snow before last winter! I do have to say I am in love with the New England area. The scenery is beautiful and in the fall the vibrant colors just can’t be described.

I hope your trip went smooth and you get settled into your new home quickly!

Girl. You are incredible. It was such a treat to meet you in SF… I hope your move is safe and everything arrives as it should (to make up for your luggage!)… I got you on Twitter… now I just need to check it!

    Travel blessings to you!

Good luck! We just got moved into our new place and the military movers broke, um, at least a fourth of our stuff. UGH! I hope things go much better for you than it did for us!

I thought I’d add RE: broken items.. make sure you file a claim! It is a lot of paperwork and hassle especially when you’re trying to get unpacked and settled, but well worth it! They pay full replacement value as of Oct01 last year. We had several things broken, many damaged and a few missing. We took the time and did our research online finding comparable items for replacement and got full value back on the lost items (my $600 bicycle!) and enough to replace/repair the others. Take your time unpacking and make sure to check the movers inventory list. When things are so crazy and your entire house is coming out of boxes it’s easy to forget some things you had. If things are broken just make sure you keep them until you’ve gotten your reimbursement.

Sorry to ramble on about it, but the process was so tedious and our yeoman told us she rarely sees people actually follow through and complete a claim because it’s so involved. Take your time, unpack and inventory things as you go that are damaged/lost. You have several months after your goods are delivered to file the claim, but contact the yeoman that would be assisting you for all the details so you don’t miss out.

    Hi,
I have moved a lot myself, and it always takes time to settle. It’s overwhelming and emotional, but also exciting. Oh…and exhausting! All the best.

I hope you are enjoying Groton!
